WHO ARE YOUR CHILDREN’S FRIENDS?

children campingCan I ask you a question? If your children are in public school, do you know their friends and who they hang out with? Are they children or teens who fear the Lord and follow after His truth? What about their teachers who are influencing them daily? Are they keepers of the truths of the Bible or filled with humanist ideology?

The psalmist confessed: “I am a companion of all them that fear thee, and of them that keep thy precepts” (Psalm 119:63).

We are influenced by the people we keep company with, even as adults. What about our children? They are influenced even more by the company they keep. You can be the greatest parent in the world, but if your children start hanging around with ungodly friends, they influence your children more than you. I raised my children on Proverbs 13:20: “He that walks with wise men shall be wise, but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.”

Can I encourage you dear mother that if your children do not have godly friends who fear the Lord in their school environment to take them out of school. Although you also need wisdom regarding “Christian” friends these days.

Now I know I am going to be bombarded with those who say they send their children to school to be a witness. That sounds such a good idea, but it doesn’t always work. When planting a sapling that we want to one day be strong tree, we must protect it from the winds and elements. I have to confess to my shame that I lost many trees I planted because I didn’t protect them adequately.

We don’t send our saplings out to be brainwashed by the enemy with humanist propaganda, ungodly teaching, and to be taught to accept abominable practices as though they were normal. We first of all ground our children in the truth. We make sure they are strong in the Lord and in His Word and able to contend for their faith. We get them ready before we send them out. We are not getting them ready for hibernation, but for the revelation of God to the world. But they better be strong first. And they better not just look like Christians and yet have minds filled with humanism! The current church of God is filled with humanist thinkers.

Teens especially long for friends, but they better be surrounded by godly companions! This is what the Bible says to do so we had better take notice. 1 Corinthians 15:33 (HCSB): “Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company corrupts good morals.’”

Make it a daily prayer with your husband that God will provide godly friends for your children and teens.

GOD HAS A BETTER PLACE FOR YOU

BetterPlaceWhere are you today, mother? Bewildered? In confusion? In despair? In the pit of self-pity? Your stomach is tied in knots?. God has a better place for you.

His plan for you is to live in rest. Christ Jesus lives in rest. Nothing takes Him by surprise. Nothing gets Him in a panic. And if you have received Him into your life He lives in you. And you live in Him. Therefore, Positionally you live in rest (John 15:5-7).

It’s your enemy who wants to rob you from your place of rest. Come on now, don’t let him have the victory. Confess out loud the words of the psalmist: “RETURN UNTO YOUR REST, O my soul” (Psalm 116:7). If you have left this place, RETURN! You may have to say it more than once! And as you confess it, you must let go your burden, your bitterness, or your concern--and trust God with it!

“Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I thank you for the rest I have in You. You are my rest. I let all my concerns go and trust completely in You. I find my rest in no other place but You. Thank You with all my heart. Amen.”

IT COMES BACK TO OUR ATTITUDE

OurAttitudeProverbs 15:15 says: “All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.”

In this Scripture the “afflicted” are not those who go through great misfortunes, but those who see the worst in everything. They are depressed in their minds. The New Living Translation says: “For the despondent, every day brings trouble; for the happy heart, life is a continual feast.”

When we see the negative in everything, we live a miserable life. And what is the bottom line? We are leaving God out of the equation! For no matter what happens in our lives, in the little annoying things of our daily lives or the big situations that seem like the end of the world, God is in control. He is bigger than our problems and difficulties. We can totally trust Him, and “Whoso trusts in the Lord, HAPPY IS HE” (Proverbs 16:20). Your life can actually be a continual feast!

When we put our trust in the Lord and rejoice in the fact that He is our Strength, our Source, Our Rock, our Help, and our Deliverer, we can keep our hearts joyful in any salutation.

It’s all in how we look at things. I love Paul’s confession in 2 Corinthians 43:8-10: “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken, cast down, but not destroyed.” He goes on to say in verses 16-18: “For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a FAR MORE EXCEEDING AND ETERNAL WEIGHT OF GLORY; while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

Instead of looking on the dark side today, why not count some blessings?

CHERISHING THE MOMENTS

The following is a lovely poem about motherhood, sent to me by Ashley O’Brien (and here is her picture). I know it will bless you.

CHERISHING THE MOMENTS

Welcome to the world, sweet baby be
You came hand-delivered, sent to me
With a tiny small frame, hands and toes,
A full head of hair and rosy pink nose.

Up at my breast you slurp and sip,
Nourishing milk is found on your lip,
I haven't always known, but now I see
Your whole entire world depends on me.

I'm a mama bear, called to stand in the fight
Against evil and lies, to pray in the night,
Our home is a place, come storm, wind, and rain
That will forever and ever exalt God's name.

Give me grace through the day to mirror Your light,
Disciplined, Bible reading, and tender goodnight,
Help me honor this man who’s at my side
With submission, appreciation, come any tide

Help me nurture wee tots crowded around,
This is Your army, hear their triumphant sound,
Giggles and yawns, pitter-patter feet,
You see the future, You don't miss a beat.

I'll train them steadily with Your law and order,
Standing firm and leaning on Your shoulder,
With prayer and petition, I'll run this race
So my family and I will one day see Your face .

With every warm meal, diaper change, and kiss,
I'm cherishing moments I would have missed
If I took a job, which sometimes sounds nice,
But I'd be ditching my calling, too heavy a price!

Instead I'll stay here in these homey four walls
With my quilts, fire place, children filling the halls,
This is my sphere, I'll take care of it well,
I'll allow The Lord's blessings, my womb will swell.

Oh mother, stand firm, you're doing holy work,
You get paid in kisses, that's a neat perk,
Your children will rise and call you blessed
And every now and then you'll find some rest.

After babes are in bed, grab your Bible and tea
Sit in bed with your man and read with glee,
These are the words that will shape your heart,
They'll keep surprising you, with every new part.

Set your priorities right, it's costly to fail,
Soon you'll be a legacy, children setting the sail,
A family that’s molded on God's unchanging Word
And went out to witness, out into the world.

Be sweet, kind, and fair, always gentle and giving,
Your children's children will always see you smiling,
And this, oh mother is very hard to do,
But do it with grace, God's covering you!

An older woman you'll be on your death bed
With many gathered around that you have led,
Your children will say (all grown up now),
"Thank you, Mama, for teaching us how.”

You'll smile up at them with a contented white glow,
Knowing they'll go beyond you and continue to grow,
You'll watch from Heaven the countless lives you began
When you chose to trust God in all of His plans.

MOTHERS WON THE WAR!

MothersWonWarI have just received this great prophetic writing from an Above Rubies reader, Sharon White. I would like to share it with you:

The old town church bell began to ring. There was heard a shout! It was a call throughout the land for Mothers everywhere to return home.

"The children need you,” came the cry.

"Your husbands need you," the preacher urged from the front church steps. "This nation needs a great Christian revival for Mothers to get back on the old fashioned path of being at home. This is your post. Stand by! Stand Fast! The country is in turmoil. There is misery and suffering everywhere. We need all the Mothers in the home. Dig in your heels and make your homes lighthouses of holiness and service. Don't let the enemy invade the hearts of our homes. Don't let the enemy get a foothold in or they will slowly erode and take away the godly home."

There was a cry of repentance and lamentation. There were tears of conviction and a softening of cold, worldly hearts which had been hardened by materialism, the seeking of money, and a life of seeking constant recreation. Work must be done in the home! A sense of joy, pride, and relief filled these mother’s minds. There was heavenly work to do and they were coming from the byways and highways, back to their own homes. The Mother's place was being restored everywhere.

As the sun rose the next morning, there were mothers on their knees in prayer. They were reading their Bibles. They were making homemade breakfasts, doing the laundry, wearing aprons, and caring for all who entered their doors. They were soldiers for the HOME.

Every house had a Mother in her post in every community across this land. Every child in every neighborhood had security and peace knowing that a loving, godly mother was always home. Their innocence was restored and protected.

Husbands were now known in the gates for their work in civic and church duty. They were no longer coming home to empty houses, or having to take on the extra task of Mother's work. They provided the living again. They served the community and took on church work. They had loving wives at home, who cared for their families and provided a place of rest.

All the prayers and Bible reading from the mothers infiltrated the lighthouses and brought holiness into the children's souls. Mothers trained up their children to do a mighty work for the Lord. Mother was always there to make nutritious meals, to keep the home pretty and clean, and to have the patience of a saint to care for her charges.

This revival of Mothers at Home affected the land and the nation. Godly children grew up with integrity and honor. They took political offices, held places of authority in both business and government, and their actions and lives turned the tides and won the war against the threat of ungodly ruin and sinful devastation.

The tide was turned. Mothers helped win the war because they heard the preacher's cry. They heard the bell from the town church which called all citizens to stand fast, to stand by, and to take action! The land was restored to order as all the mothers were called out of the world and back into their homes.

They sacrificed much, they sacrificed energy, money, and fulfillment. And by their actions of a mass exodus of Mothers back to their homes, these women restored a godly nation!

SITTING DOWN OR ON THE OFFENSIVE?

OnTheOffensiveAs Abram and Lot increased in wealth and livestock the land was not large enough for them both. Therefore Abram gave Lot the choice of where he would like to go--the plain of Jordan that was luscious and well-watered, or the mountains. Lot chose the easy way and “dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom” (Genesis 13:12). It was snot long before Lot and his family moved into Sodom and lived there (Genesis 14:12).

And then in Genesis 19:2 we read how Lot “sat in the gate of Sodom.” He was now involved in the jurisdiction of the city. Sadly, Lot became used to the wicked lifestyle of Sodom. Well, not exactly. 2 Peter 2:6-8 tells us that these people “vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds.” But even though he was tormented by their sin, he didn’t do anything about it. He “sat” down instead of rising up and being a voice. He would not have been accepted in the gate of Sodom if he was speaking against their sin.

We must also decide what we will do as we live in a nation that now accepts homosexuality as lawful. We dare not sit down and accept it. For what happened to Lot? He lost most of his children to God’s judgment. Lot only escaped with his two daughters. His other daughters and sons-in-law and grandchildren became so entrenched in the lifestyle of Sodom that even when he pleaded with them to leave the impending judgment, they took no notice of him.

What we do depends on what happens to our children? If we do not speak up and stand up for righteousness and God’s ways, our children will get used to evil. It doesn’t stop there. When people get used to living in evil, they begin to accept it as many Christians are already doing.

Please do not “sit down,” not only for God’s sake and your own sake, but for the sake of your children and grandchildren. You determine their future lives. Psalm 94:16 states: “Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who still stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?”

Will you stand up and be counted?

HOW DO WE RESPOND TO THE ELDERLY?

RespondToElderlyIt is a godly thing to respect the elderly, and yet this does not happen a lot in our society today. I believe it is important that we practically teach our children how to respond to older people. The following are 10 pointers for young people, and to help you teach your children. You may like to print them out and pin them up for your children. I will also be grateful to hear other pointers from you.

1. Do not ignore them. If older people are in the room, always make an effort to speak to them. Do not only talk to your peers and forget about them

2. When you meet them, tell them your name clearly and shake their hand. When shaking the hand of an older person it is nice to place both your hands on their hand. This shows further endearment and honor because of their age. In some African countries they bow before elders. They did this in biblical times, too.

3. Address them appropriately. Do not call elders by their first name, but show respect and address them as Mr. or Mrs. unless you are told otherwise.

4. If you are sitting in a room when an elderly person walks in, immediately stand up to greet them. This is mandated in God's Word. Leviticus 19:32: "Thou shalt RISE UP before the hoary head, and honor the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the Lord." The NET translation says: "You must STAND UP in the presence of the aged."

5. Speak clearly, articulately, and slowly when talking to the elderly. Do not mumble. A lot of older people are deaf and cannot understand the mumbling of many young people. They want to understand what you are saying, so make sure they can hear and understand you.

6. Look out for opportunities to assist them by opening doors, helping them to walk steadily, or carry parcels or their bag for them.

7. Listen politely to what they have to say. Look in their face when you speak to them. God wants you to learn from your elders. Stay interested even when they repeat the same story over and over again.

8. Ask questions. When you ask questions about their life and what they have done during their life, you will be surprised what you will learn. Gain all the information you can from them for the time will come when that information will go to the grave and you won't be able to retrieve it. Get all the information you can now.

9. Think of kind things you can do for them. Ask if there is anything you can get for them. Ask if you can make them a cup of tea or coffee. Ask them if they would like you to read to them. Think of special treats for them.

10. If your grandparents do not live close and you cannot visit them regularly, send letters and cards to them regularly. They long to hear from you. Don't deprive them.

IT ALL HAPPENS IN THE HOME

HappensInHomeHome is where we prepare our children to face life.
Home is where we prepare our children to have a relationship with God.
Home is where we prepare our children for their future marriage.
Home is where we prepare our children to raise their own children one day.
Home is where we prepare our children for their destiny.

IT NEVER BECOMES ORDINARY

NeverOrdinaryThis beautiful picture is of Vera Louden with her 12th baby, Samuel Matthew. Vera shares: “One of the greatest joys I have experienced in my life is the bonding time within the first few weeks after birth. The eye contact and snuggles and breastfeeding are just so amazing.”

What joy! There is nothing so special as the atmosphere in a home when a new baby arrives. I think it must be because they come to us pure and untainted from the hand of God. In those early weeks we experience something of the atmosphere of heaven. God Himself is so excited at the birth of a new life.

Vera is the mother of the teenage son delighting in his baby brother on the front cover of Above Rubies, #89.

THE JOY AND PAIN OF MOTHERHOOD

JoyPainMotherhood(Take time to read and feel the depth of the words of this poem).

The fair young earth hushed all her sounds of life,
As evening gathered in the western sky,
And calmed the sportive winds that she might hear
The world's first mother's first fond lullaby.

A rapture, such as mothers share with God
By sweet melodious cadences expressed:
"My child! Part of my heart in human form--
My living thought, plucked from my throbbing breast!"

How good was God to give such balm divine
To sinning Eve bereft of Paradise!
To grant her, mourning over Eden lost,
To find new Edens in her baby's eyes.

And every mother, crooning o'er her child,
Catches the same sweet rapture from the skies,
And, though shut out of earthly Edens, finds
In mother-love, a sinless Paradise.

Each height of bliss but measures depth of woe,
And mother-joy is matched by mother-pain.
Eve's gentle heart bled o'er her sinning child,
And Mary wept o'er hers who had no stain.

Mothers alone drink Sorrow's deepest dregs.
Did God need sympathy that He should deign
To grant to woman through her mother-love,
Some comprehension of His love and pain?

Mothers alone climb Joy's most rapturous heights;
Here, too, they touch the heart of love divine.
“O Father, God, how very good thou art
To grant us joys that else were only thine!”

A partnership with God is motherhood;
What strength, what purity, what self-control,
What love, what wisdom should belong to her
Who helps God fashion an immortal soul!

YOU CANNOT BE REPLACED

KitchenTestingA wife wrote to me: "When we were getting life insurance, I was taken aback at my husband's view of my monetary value. He said if I died he would have to hire a maid, a gardener, a cook, umpteen babysitters, private tutors, a tailor, etc., and he would still be without his best friend."

WHAT TO DO BEFORE YOU SCREAM

NancyFam1Life is not perfectly calm when you have little ones around you. Sometimes they get beside themselves and begin to act out very negatively. The worse they get, the more frustrated you get until you are ready to shout and yell or spank them all! But wait a minute. Before you scream, try an alternative. There are better options to calm them down.

1. CHILDREN LOVE SURPRISES "Children, Mommy is going to give you a surprise! I want you all to hide beh...ind the sofa and wait. No one is allowed to look!" Then arrange a little plate for each one with perhaps cut apples, pieces of cheese, raisins, a cookie you have made, or whatever they like. Make them into the shape of a smiley face.

"Okay, children, come for your surprise!" Although it is only simple, a little surprise and a little food in their stomachs will make a huge difference.

2. CHILDREN LOVE STORIES "Come children, let's read a story." Gather the children all around you, cuddle them up tight, and read some nursery rhymes or stories to them.  I found story time never failed to calm my children. Can you guess that we had story time quite frequently throughout the day? Have you purchased “Nanny’s Nursery Rhymes”? You’ll love to read these to your children: http://tinyurl.com/NannysNurseryRhymes

3. CHILDREN LOVE TO GET OUTSIDE "Children, let's go outside for a little walk." Take them out to look at the birds, the butterflies, or any insects, lizards, or salamanders you can find. Ten to fifteen minutes outside lets them let off steam, changes their behavior, and they'll come inside with refreshed spirits.

4. CHILDREN NEED SLEEP Sometimes when a child, or all the children, are bouncing off the walls, we forget that they may be tired and no longer know how to control themselves. Perhaps they just need a sleep!

With most of these little alternatives, you have to stop what you are doing! That's the secret. Children become more difficult to handle when you are engrossed in what you are doing. To stop and spend a little time with them makes all the difference.

Have a great day.

OH THE WONDER

TheWonder “I’m pregnant!” No, not me, although that would be amazing! But these are usually the words a mother will say when she sees the pink line! Actually, It’s not a very nice-sounding word, isn’t it? For something so wonderful I am sure we could think of a better word.

What about “I’m gestating!” That sounds even worse.

...

I love the sound of “I’m wombing!” It reveals what is really happening. Of course, I don’t expect you have to use this word. It’s a little old-fashioned, but I love it--and it is Scriptural.

What a beautiful thing to be wombing. When else does a mother have an excuse to have a nap in the afternoon? It is time to dream of what her baby will be like.

It is a time of wonder and apprehension for a first-time mother. But is it any less wonder for the mother of five, or even six, or more? I think she understands even more the awe and miracle of the little life growing inside her--a brand new person who has never lived before and will never come to this earth again. She may have other children, but this is a new creation of God. What will he or she be like?

She may be waiting in anticipation for the surprise of whether it will be a boy or girl. Many don’t wait for this surprise today, but it is one of the surprises God loves to give us, just as all parents love to give surprises to their children (Psalm 139: 15).

It is so exciting for a new mother to feel the first movement of life within her womb. Nor will an older mother ever get tired of the wonder of feeling life in her womb. What could be more amazing.

Are you blessed to be pregnant? Enjoy your wombing? It is a powerful time of your life. It is more important that all the other things you could be rushing about doing. When you are asked to be involved in this and that, you can say, “I’m so sorry, but I am not available at this time. I am wombing!”

It’s time to enjoy the wonder. It’s time to “cozy in” and prepare your “home nest” again for your coming baby. First time mothers, you will never be able to comprehend until the moment of birth the overwhelming love you will feel for your baby.

Second time mothers, you love your present child so much, you wonder if you could ever have enough love for another child. This is also the wonder. You will have even more love for this precious child. And each baby that comes into the family causes the mother to love her husband and her other children even more. The mother who has many children overloads with more and more love for each individual in her family when a new baby is born.

Oh the wonder!

Love from Nancy Campbell P.S.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

BiggerPictureI am amazed at how people who say they believe the Bible actually take little notice of it. They say we should tolerate homosexuality in the name of loving every one. That sounds so good, and of course we should love each person, but we should not tolerate the actions as it mocks God’s eternal plan.

God said: “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him” (Genesis 2:18 ESV). Who was this helper? Was it another man? No,we all know that God created the one who would be the perfect fit for Adam, She was called a “woman,” a “wife,” and a “mother” so the man and wife could be fruitful and take dominion (Genesis 2:22-24 and 3:20). Any deviation from this plan is a smack in God’s face, the One who intricately designed and created us.

But THERE IS MORE yet! After God brought the woman to the man He stated that “the man and the wife,” the two opposite sexes, were to become “one flesh” (Genesis 2:24). This Scripture is quoted again in Ephesians 5:31, 32 and it goes on to say: “This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.”

God lifts marriage to a very high place, far higher and more sacred than we understand with our human minds. He chose marriage to portray the oneness of Christ and His bride, the church. Notice that she is called His bride (Revelation 21:2, 9). The marriage relationship is to reveal this picture to the world. There is coming a day when those who are called will sit down at “the marriage supper of the Lamb” with “the Lamb’s wife” (Revelation 19:6-9 and 21:9). Christ is the fulfillment of the sacrificial lamb which had to be a male lamb (Exodus 12:5) and the church for which He sacrificed His life is His bride.

To distort this picture is sacrilege.

ON WHICH SIDE ARE YOU BUILDING?

WhichSideThere are ultimately only two kingdoms in this world--the kingdom of God and the kingdom of Satan. The big question we have to ask is: what kingdom are we building for? As we daily build our homes and families we are building for one kingdom or the other.

Hebrews 1:8 says: “Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever: a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of thy kingdom.” In other words, the hallmark of God’s kingdom is RIGHTESOUSNESS. Talking of Jesus Christ, the next verse (v. 9) says: “Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity, therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.”

Romans 14:17 says: “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but RIGHTEOUSNESS, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.”

And we all know Matthew 6:33: “ Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his RIGHTEOUSNESS; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

As we build our little kingdom home, which we want to be part of God’s kingdom, we must lift up righteousness in our home. We must cast out all that is foreign to righteousness. Anything that is unrighteous or unclean allows Satan’s kingdom to get a foothold in our home.

Become a builder for God’s kingdom of righteousness. It’s worth it. It’s an everlasting kingdom that has no end.

Be encouraged.

IS IT RIGHT TO JUDGE?

judge righteouslyIn response to some of my posts of the last few days, many have replied with the same old mantra of “Judge not that ye be not judged.” Whenever the homosexual agenda is mentioned, out comes this Scripture from the woodwork. However, the doctrine of any subject is not what God says in one verse, but what He says throughout the whole Bible. We must get the whole picture. Therefore, can I humbly ask that those who pull out this Scripture from their hat will be honest enough to sincerely study what God says throughout His Holy Word?
