This is our first Mini Newsletter for 2012. I can’t believe where the time flies. At the moment I am editing the new issue of Above Rubies, #84. I plan to complete it and give it to my Design Artist to work on while we are in Europe.

You will notice that I advertised this book on page 8 of the current issue of Above Rubies. Please forgive the delay in having it ready for you. It was a much bigger project than I realized, as is usually the case! Praise the Lord, it is now printed and I have ordered the books. They should be on my doorstep in a few days. Order today. You will be so blessed.
I am forever taking on projects that are much larger than I anticipate. At least I don’t get bored. I plan in the future to also publish NEVER GIVE UP, LOOK UP, SWEETEN UP and TOUGHEN UP!
Also, when I return from Europe, I plan to complete 100 DAYS OF BLESSING, VOLUME 2, so that will be coming up.

VICTIM OF DIVORCE
You will remember reading this powerful testimony on pages 9-10 of Above Rubies # 83. Unfortunately, a few lines of a paragraph disappeared at the end of page 9 as we formatted the magazine. Here is the whole paragraph for you:
I think I understand why God hates divorce (Malachi 2:16). It pulls apart the very unit he has designed to shape and build our character and personality. And this affects the next generation, our communities and nation. Destinies are at stake. I recently took part in a study on covenants. We looked at Malachi 2:15, “Has not the Lord made them one? And why one? Because He was seeking godly offspring.” My notes explained, “This breaking of faith leaves the children’s souls wandering in confusion, seeking an oneness that has been broken and lost.” God detests divorce because broken families disrupt His ultimate goal: our oneness with Him.

HOST AN ORPHAN FOR THE SUMMER

I'm with New Horizons for Children, the largest faith-based orphan hosting ministry. We are based in Atlanta, but our host program is open to Christian Families nationwide. We've brought over 1600 orphans since 2005 to the US to be hosted with Christian Families for 4-6 week host programs. We brought 400 orphans in 2011 and are looking to do the same this year.

RAISING MISSIONARIES
An Above Rubies reader emailed me the other day.
“Thank you for the encouragement over 18 years that I have been receiving your magazine and now e-mails. I can't tell you how many times the magazine has come just when I needed it.
Recently, our pastor was telling us about how in the 10/40 window there are millions of people to one missionary. Later, I was listening to Reb Bradley's Child Training Tips: Things I wish I had known when my children were young. It suddenly dawned on me, that because of so many Christians limiting their family size, there are less potential missionaries. USA is suffering because of the small family size and because of abortion. The Kingdom of God is not advancing like it probably could have if Christian parents in the last century had continued receiving the "blessings" God wanted them to have.
This lack of missionaries really brought home the importance of raising my seven children to reach their generation and the next.
Two of mine are grown; one is just married, but does not want to have children. I am praying for her heart to change toward this issue. But I still have five children under 16. I hope to be able to disciple them in this direction with evangelism in mind. I'm not very bold in sharing my faith, but I’m asking the Lord to change in me. From M.B.”

ORDINARINESS OR EXTRAORDINARINESS?
I’ve coined a new word—ordinariness. It’s a place where many people live. I’m not talking about the “sameness” of your everyday tasks in the home, for even the most mundane tasks are sacred and therefore extraordinary when you allow God into them.
I am talking about living in the state of thinking like the status quo, fitting in with the humanist agenda of our society, and trusting in your own resources and understanding. There is no other word for this state than ordinariness.
To move out of this comfortable state and live in biblical mindset takes you into extraordinariness. It is a challenging life--a realm of faith, hanging on the edge of a limb, adventures of trusting God when you cannot see where His provision is coming from, battles against the adversary, speaking up for truth and God-given convictions in the face of popular opinion, and receiving ridicule from family members and neighbors.
We are out of step with the world but in step with God. We are out of sync with public thinking in the media and humanistic education, but we seek to listen to the mind of God. It’s not the easy life, but it’s definitely not ordinary.
Why live in ordinariness when you can live in extraordinariness? If God has anything to do with your life, it will be extraordinary, for God is anything but ordinary.
Let’s move out of the “ordinary humanistic lifestyle” into the “extraordinary biblical lifestyle.
