GOD WANTS TO WALK IN YOUR HOME
ABOVE RUBIES # 83
I have completed editing the new edition of Above Rubies, # 83 and it is now with the Design Artist who is working on it. However, I don’t yet have the money to go to print. I have just completed paying the last issue. Now I have to trust the Lord for $40,000.00 before I can print this current one. However, I always continue ahead in faith, working on it, so I can have it ready when God miraculously provides. I do hope I can get this one out before the end of the year as this will only be the third issue this year. I like to print four every year. But we have been printing Above Rubies for over 34 years now and God has always been faithful through His people, so I keep trusting Him.
I make Above Rubies available freely as I want to get it to every mother in the nation—and every nation in the world! My heart is so burdened to encourage and strengthen marriages and motherhood. If you are one who cannot give financially in any way, I am still happy to freely send it to you. I want you to be blessed. However, if God places a burden on your heart to give to the Above Rubies ministry, either BIG OR SMALL, and you would like to help, you can do it either of three ways:
1. Go to http://do.nr/1LG and make a donation on-line.
2. Call us at 1 877 729 9861 and make a donation by credit card over the phone.
3. Send a check to Above Rubies, PO Box 681687, Franklin TN 37068-1687
Thank you! We appreciate it very much.

THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE RULES THE WORLD!
An old statement, but still as powerful when it was written. An Above Rubies reader sent this poem to me. It is actually one I have loved for years. I will share it with you in case you haven’t read it.
Blessings on the hand of women!
Angels guard its strength and grace,
In the palace, cottage, hovel,
Oh, no matter where the place;
Would that never storms assailed it,
Rainbows ever gently curled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.
Infancy's the tender fountain,
Power may with beauty flow,
Mother's first to guide the streamlets,
From them souls unresting grow--
Grow on for the good or evil,
Sunshine streamed or evil hurled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.
Woman, how divine your mission
Here upon our natal sod!
Keep, oh, keep the young heart open
Always to the breath of God!
All true trophies of the ages
Are from mother-love impearled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.
Blessings on the hand of women!
Fathers, sons, and daughters cry,
And the sacred song is mingled
With the worship in the sky--
Mingles where no tempest darkens,
Rainbows evermore are hurled;
For the hand that rocks the cradle
Is the hand that rules the world.

LONG PLAYING RECORD
Back in the early days of Above Rubies, in the early eighties, we produced a music CD which we called The Hand that Rocks the Cradle. Do any of you still remember the Long Playing Records? When we produced The Hand that Rocks the Cradle, we also produced a LP of this project. However, I don’t have one in my possession as a memory. I am wondering if any “older” mothers in Australia or New Zealand still have one in their possession. Let me know if you do.

BOOKS ABOUT BREAST FEEDING
In the last Mini Above Rubies Newsletter I asked for mothers to share the books that have helped them the most about breast feeding and birthing. I will now share the list with you, plus the mothers who recommended them and some of their comments:
Adventures in Tandem Nursing: Breastfeeding During Pregnancy and Beyond by Hilery Flower (Recommended by Susanne Alm, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. – This book encourages extended breastfeeding of a toddler or nursing while pregnant. It helped me put my almost three year old, who was struggling nutritionally, back to the breast, although he had been weaned for 1 1/2 years! For six more months he nursed along with his little sister until he was able to eat better at the table and now we are weaning a second time).
Baby-Led Weaning by Gill Rapley. (Recommended by Susanne Alm, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. – This book is about a more natural and gradual approach to weaning).
Breastfeeding and Fertility by Jenny Silliman (Recommended by CarrieAnn Thomas, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. - my FAVORITE that I purchased from the Above Rubies, Bookstore. It completely changed how I nurse and care for my babies).
Breastfeeding God’s Way and Why do Babies Suck? (Recommended by CarrieAnn Thomas, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. – I always refer my friends to Nancy Campbell’s articles. Go to:
Healing Our Children by Ramie Nagel (Recommended by Sarah Nicholson, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).
Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon. (Rec9ommended by Sarah Nicholson, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. - My firstborn, a son, was 2.5 weeks overdue, had a c-section, had terrible trouble breastfeeding and he had terrible allergies and eczema which meant I had to stop breastfeeding at 14 months. In our search for answers and a better experience, I came across the Weston A. Price Foundation. I followed many of the recommendations Fallon and Nagel give for conception / pregnancy / birth / lactation. My daughter came on her due date, I had a brilliant labour and birth, and I’m still breastfeeding and she’s nearly two, and her allergies and eczema are minimal compared to my son. I wish I could have more children so I can improve on it all again and again. My dream is to have twins born at home in water without allergies!)
The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding by La Leche League (Recommended also by Rhian Landowski, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. * CarrieAnn Thomas, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
* Holly Loughlin, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).
BOOKS ABOUT NATURAL BIRTHING
Active Birth by Janet Balaskas (Recommended by (name missing) - I have had five natural births and I would whole heartedly recommend this book * Germaine Mowery, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Born in Zion by Carol Balizet (Recommended by Mary Ann Avery, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. - this book was a blessing in my every day prayer life and during the birth of my last two children. It encouraged me to not give God a list of my perfect labor and delivery requests but to pray, "Have your way, Lord." Also, it helped me to see how God is at work in our lives during special times like childbirth. I had always considered other events like communion and water baptism to be times when God could move in extraordinary ways. Now I was free to expect His Hand in the birth of each child).
Childbirth Without Fear by Grantly Dick-Read (Recommended by Darla Richter, mother of 10 children on earth and 5 with the Lord, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. - my favorite by far, but one warning, he is a believer in evolution. I also recommend reading the Psalms and underlining verses for peace and comfort).
Christ-Centered Childbirth by Kelly Townsend (Recommended by CarrieAnn Thomas, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. - I think this is the BEST book. Most others have occult, new-agey material that Christians shouldn't be filling their minds with.)
Easing Labor Pain by Adrienne B. Lieberman (Recommended by Tamsyn Short, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Simply Give Birth by Heather Cushman-Dowdee (Recommended by Angie, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (I think!) - It is a collection of planned natural birth stories by mums and dads in the States.
Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering by Sarah J. Buckley, MD (Recommended by Angie, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (I think!) - Some of the questions she answers are: Is it safe to expose my baby to ultrasound?, Which modern birth practices could be dangerous for my baby and me?, Could drugs used in birth affect my baby's brain development?, Is it good to bank my baby's cord blood?, How can I get a good night's sleep with a small baby?, Will breastfeeding still benefit my older baby? One of the things I loved learning from her book was how God actually creates the cocktail of hormones for women to get through birth and even love it.
Having a Great Birth in Australia edited by David Vernon and Men at Birth edited by David Vernon are both a compilation of birth stories that are mostly homebirths. Having a Great Birth in Australia is full of birth stories by mummas and Men at Birth is full of stories from the dads’ perspectives.
Husband Coached Childbirth by Dr. Robert Bradley (Recommended by Reba Sanborn, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. * Nicole Taylor,This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. * Mandy Tyree, This email address is being protected from spambots. Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way by Susan McCutcheon (Recommended by Reba Sanborn, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. * Nicole Taylor, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. * Holly Loughlin, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Naturally Healthy Pregnancy by Shonda Parker (Recommended by Cristal Tate, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. – she gives lots of nutritional information for pregnancy and what herbs you can take and cannot take.)
Supernatural Childbirth by Jackie Mize (Recommended by Michele Johnson, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. - After reading this book in 1999, I had a pain free and uncomplicated birth (my 3rd birth) with my third son in the hospital. Immediately after that experience, I decided I wanted to home birth our next baby. I have since given birth to four other babies by UC home birth (with another due any day now). Some in water, some not (I really recommend water birth as well). This will be our 8th baby. * Nitasha Williams, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
The Birth Book by Dr. Sears (Recommended by Germaine Mowery, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. - good for first time moms to learn terminology and questions to ask the doctor).
The Five Standards for Safe Childbearing by David Stewart, Ph.D. (Recommended by Michele Dicen, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
The Joy of Natural Childbirth by Helen Wessel (originally published under the title, Natural Childbirth and the Christian Family (Recommended by Rosemary Doré from Australia – only one negative in the book in that it has two pages about contraception * Nancy Campbell, I read the original book, Natural Childbirth and the Christian Family when I was having my babies and loved it).
The Lord of Birth by Jennifer A. Vanderlaan (Recommended by CarrieAnn Thomas, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. - A Biblically based book).
The Naturally Healthy Pregnancy by Shonda Parker (Recommended by CarrieAnn Thomas, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. - this book is great for preparing for childbirth and caring for our pregnant bodies/babies).
The Natural Pregnancy Book: Herbs, Nutrition, and Other Holistic Choices by Aviva Jill Romm (Recommended by CarrieAnn Thomas, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. - A lot of helpful information. She is *not* a Christian, so there are sections I skip right over. You will probably get recommendations for either Ina May Gaskin's books. Sadly, since there is such a limited market of Biblically based childbirth books most Christians read these books. I would caution against putting them on your list. I read one (can't remember which one), and always thought that I would just skip over the new-agey (power in crystals, "power to the woman,” push the husband aside and let the woman do the real work, type of thinking) but, one vivid excerpt I read on stimulating childbirth was pornographic in nature, and appalling. I have since repented of ever picking up this book that does not exalt Christ as Lord, and always caution women from reading her books.
WEB SITES AND DVDs.
http://www.birthingnaturally.net/ (Recommended by Angela Forman, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. from New Zealand - a great help for focusing my thoughts on birth)
www.comfortinchildbirth.com (Recommended by Nicole Roberts - I would consider this CD set mandatory for anyone that is planning to have their baby in the hospital for any reason, anyone considering becoming a doula or who loves helping woman having the birth God created them to have).
Making Babies -- Shoshanna Easling's new series: 3 DVD's plus a book to go along with it.

BYE FROM NANCY
May God walk in your home today.
Genesis 3:8 says, "They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day." This is the first thing we read that God did after He created the world, created man and created the first Garden home. He walked in the garden! The Garden of Eden (which means "delight") was the first home and was an example for all future homes. God wants us to make our home a delight. That is what homes are meant to be--a delightful place to live. They should be a delightful place for our children, a delightful place for our husband to return home each evening, a delightful place for everyone who comes in through our doors, and a delightful place for ourselves.
The greatest way we make our homes a delight is to experience the presence of God in our homes. And this is what God longs to do--to walk in our homes and fellowship with us. He wants to be part of everything we are doing.
You may be thinking, "Help! I can't imagine God walking in my home. There's stuff going on around here that God wouldn't be very happy about!" The amazing thing is that God does not only come to us when everything is perfect. He comes down to our lives when everything is out of order. He wants to come into your home to make everything right. That's what He was doing in the Scripture we read. Adam and Eve had disobeyed God's command and sin had entered the world. It was a tragic moment! But God did not abandon them. He still came walking in the garden to meet them--to meet them right where they were. He came to put things right. He came to bring them salvation and restoration.
At first Adam and Eve "hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God" as we often hide ourselves from God when things aren't right, when we are in rebellion, or when things seem out of control. But when they allowed God to find them, they came to great repentance and God brought salvation to them. Of course, it was not without great cost. Animals had to be killed and blood was shed for the first time (Genesis 3:21).
But now Jesus has shed His perfect and precious blood to make atonement for our sins (Ephesians 1:7; 2:13; 1 John 1:7, 9). There is nothing too hard for God to forgive and cleanse. And He comes walking in your home to meet you right where you are, even in the midst of your sin and hopelessness. As you come to the foot of the cross with a repentant spirit, He will forgive you and cover you with His righteousness. He will bring healing to your relationships. He will bring restoration to the things that are out of order in your home. That's why He comes--to bring us salvation, healing and restoration and to fill our homes with His delightful presence.
Will you let God walk in the midst of your home? Will you let Him find you right where you are and minister into your deepest need? He is walking and He wants to find you and bring you His blessing.
Leviticus 26:12 says, "I will also walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people."
Jeremiah 31:1 says, "I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be My people."
Ezekiel 37:27 says, "My dwelling place also will be with them; and I will be their God, and they will be My people."
We go over to the New Testament and read in 2 Corinthians 6:16, "I will dwell in them and walk among them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people."
May you enjoy God walking in your home today.
Love from NANCY CAMPBELL
