BIBLICAL FATHERHOOD--THE GREAT NEED OF THE WORLD 7. HE SEES BEYOND THE PRESENT GENERATION

In Genesis 15:5-6 we read, "And God brought Abram forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. And he believed in the Lord; and he counted it to him for righteousness."

Godly fathers think generationally. They do not permit present circumstances to influence their faith for the future. Abraham had no children of his own, but God challenged him to believe for a multitude that no man could number. To top this dilemma was the insurmountable fact that both he and Sarah were old and way past childbearing years.

But, because God said it, Abraham believed it, resulting in Abraham become the prototype of Bible believing fathers. Fathers who call themselves Christians but who purposely limit their offspring can hardly be called the offspring of Abraham for they do not have the faith for what Abraham believed for, that is, future godly generations.

Can God really call us righteous when we have no faith, or even desire, to even believe for the present generation, let alone the future?

Be encouraged.
