Yesterday was the anniversary of the passing away of Keith Green, the Christian writer and singer who brought many into the Kingdom of God and who challenged Christians all over the world to live an “uncompromising” life for Jesus. His wife, Melody wrote the story of his life called “No Compromise.”
Do you remember him? I am sure many of you were not even alive in Keith Green’s days. It was 43 years ago that he died in a plane accident along with his three-year-old son and two-year-old daughter. He was only 28 years old. It was such a tragedy. I’ll never forget the day I heard the heartbreaking news. We all loved his music. But it was not just music. Every word he sang was a powerful challenge.
But the amazing thing is that his music still rings around the world today. Go to YouTube and you can still listen. And the challenge that he brought still comes to us today, and to us mothers. We have a responsibility to live a “No compromising” life before our children so that we can teach them, not only by word, but by our actions how they can also live a “no compromising’ life for Christ.
I raised our children on this quote from C. T. Studd:
“Only one life, ‘twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.”
We can be challenged again today from examples from the Bible:
JOSHUA
Joshua challenged the people in Joshua 24:15: “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve . . . But as for me and my house we will serve the LORD.” We cannot serve both. It is one or the other. As you know, Matthew 6:24 AMP says: “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon [money, possessions, fame, status, or whatever is valued more than the Lord].”
ELIJAH
When Elijah was on Mount Carmel he challenged the people: “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him, but if Baal, then follow him.” (1 kings 18:21). Who is God in your home? Do your children see you following Him totally? Do they see that God comes before all other things? They see your actions, not just your words. They see your passion to gather the family together for morning and evening devotions, to start and end each day with God. They know that is more important to you than all the other “stuff” that view for your attention for the day. They see your love for righteousness and hate for evil. They would never see you watching any uncompromising movies.
THREE BRAVE MEN
I love the uncompromising stand of the three young Jews who would not bow to Nebuchadnezzar’s statue. Every single person in the nation bowed to this statue. They were scared. They caved in. They did not want to be thrown into the burning fiery furnace and were more afraid of men than God.
There were only three men left standing. Conspicuous! But they stood their ground. They did not even fear the fiery furnace.
When they were brought before the king they boldly stated: “If it be so, our God whom serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. BUT IF NOT, be in known unto thee, O king, that WE WILL NOT SERVE THY GODS, nor worship the golden image which thou hast et up” (Daniel 3:17,18).
The king was so mad, he commanded that the furnace be stirred up to seven times hotter. And yet God delivered them.
There are so many more examples, but let’s be inspired again today, dear mothers, to be uncompromising mothers. And let’s raise children who will never compromise. Children who will not compromise with the truth of God’s word, matter what the consequences. Children who will not compromise to the “lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life” (1 John 2: 15-17). Children who will not compromise with the culture of our humanistic society.
Be inspired today,
Nancy Campell
