GOD SEES FUTURE GENERATIONS

“Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee;
and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee,
and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations”
(Jeremiah 1:5).

God Sees Future Generations

It’s amazing, isn’t it, how we think so differently from the way God thinks. Especially about children coming into the world.

Let me give some examples from Scripture.

LEVI PAID TITHES BEFORE HE WAS BORN!

The Bible tells us in Genesis 14 of how four kings and their armies came against Sodom and Gomorrah and defeated them. Along with confiscating all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, they also took Abraham’s nephew, Lot, and his family. Abraham rose up and went out with his home-trained army of 318 men, defeated them, and rescued Lot and his family. On his way home he met Melchisedec, King of Salem and priest of the Most High God, and Abraham gave him tithes of all he had gained.

Then we go over to the New Testament and Hebrews 7: 9, 10 tells us that not only Abraham paid tithes to Melchisedec but his great-grandson! How could that be? He wasn’t even born!

Let’s read it: “And as I may so say, Levi . . . paid tithes in Abraham, For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.” He paid tithes years before he was born!

God saw Levi, his great-grandson, in his loins, even when he was not a twinkle in Abraham’s eye. Wow, God is a way ahead of us, isn’t He?

SOLOMON WAS PROPHESIED TO BE KING BEFORE HE WAS BORN

We also read in 2 Samuel 7:12, 13 how God told David that a son who was not yet even thought of by David would come forth from his loins to be the next king: “And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of this kingdom forever.” This Scripture was fulfilled in 1Kings 5:5; 8:18-20; 1 Chronicles 17:11, 12; and 28:5, 6.

The Bible says a seed would come forth from David. The word “seed” is “zera” in Hebrew and is a word that is used for sperm as well as for people. God planned for Solomon to be born and build the temple before he was even thought of by David. In fact God named him before he was born (1 Chronicles 22:9, 10).

Solomon came forth out of the womb of Bathsheba but God particularly states that he came forth out of David’s loins. God sees the sperm as a future human being.

CYRUS WAS NAMED 150 YEARS BEFORE HE WAS BORN

King Cyrus of Persia, known as Cyrus the Great, and Cyrus, the king of the Four Corners of the Earth is written about in Isaiah 45:1-6. Guess what? This was about 150 years before he was born. The Bible specifically even mentions his name even before he is born. And he is not an Israelite. He was a heathen king, but God chose him to fulfil His purposes.

King Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Jerusalem and took the Jews to Babylon as captives. But God promised they would be there for only 70 years. How would a heathen king let them go? God raised up King Cyrus, a benevolent and generous man who had compassion on them and freed them to go back to their land. He gave back all that Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple and even gave them finance to rebuild their temple. You can read the amazing character of Cyrus in “Cyropaedia” by Xenophon. Cyrus was mentioned over 30 times in the Bible.

JOSIAH WAS PROPHESIED 300 YEARS BEFORE HE WAS BORN!

You can read in 1 Kings 131-5 of the most amazing prophetic word that King Josiah would come into the world and a specific thing that he would do. It was fulfilled exactly by Josiah 300 years after this prophetic word in 2 Kings 23:15, 17! And God also spoke his name.

When you think of how God knows who He has planned to come into the world hundreds of years before, well actually, before the foundation of the world, we had better be careful how we handle the life-giving sperm from which comes human life. How many children for whom God had specific purposes have been stopped coming into the world by Christian parents? It is a devastating question.

WHAT ABOUT JESUS?

But there’s more. God states that even Jesus Christ came forth from the loins of David. Acts 2:30 says: “Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he should raise up Christ to sit on his throne.” And that is 1,946 years after David!

God sees future generations before they are born! He has children planned to come into the world. We had better not stop God’s plans. His plans are far greater than our plans.
