THE HOMEMAKER'S APRON

THE HOMEMAKER'S APRON

by Caitlin Drennan

I have an apron I wear each day,
I could scarcely do without,
For when I wear it, I tell the world
Of a job to which I’m most devout.

I am a keeper of my home,
“Homemaker” is my title.
My apron is my uniform,
Reminding me not to be idle.

My apron may be trimmed with lace
And adorned with little flowers,
But it’s the most practical garment I own,
Without it I would flounder.

In the morning when I rise,
I tie my apron strings,
And pray that God will give me strength
To accomplish big and little things.

My apron has many uses
As I lovingly care for my family,
In the garden shed or baking bread,
It’s sure to come in handy.

With my frilly fringe I wipe teary eyes
And brush off a skinned up knee.
I clean the mud from a child’s hands
After a day of adventuring.

As I cook dinner, my apron keeps
My dress most pristine.
I tighten the lids of canning jars
And wipe the outsides clean.

My apron comes along with me
When I collect the morning eggs.
And it hangs around my waist
When I tuck my darlings in their beds.

After a long day’s work, my apron has wiped
Many a sweaty brow,
My apron always seems to be
Just what I need somehow.

I love my homemaker's apron.
It’s a tool I will always need.
When I wear my apron I tell the world,
“I am a homemaker indeed!”
