The Name Of The LORD, Pt 6 No. 367

THE NAME OF THE LORD IN YOUR HOME
Part 6

"I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another "
(Isaiah 42:8).

REMEMBER the name of the Lord

Psalm 20:7 says, "Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God." It's so easy to trust in man's resources around us, isn't it? We run to the doctor at the slightest concern. We call a friend to unload our problem. God wants us to trust in His powerful name! His name is bigger than all our problems. Read Psalm119:55 and Isaiah 26:13.

King Asa had an army 580,000, all mighty valiant men. But against him came an Ethiopian army of one million! Nearly twice the size as his army. What could he do in such a situation? Who could he turn to? Asa turned to the right source. He cried out to God, "Help us, O Lord our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O Lord, thou art our God, let not man prevail against thee." And because he remembered the name of the Lord this huge army was destroyed.

RUN INTO the name of the Lord

Proverbs 18:10 says, "The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe." What a wonderful promise. His name is a place of safety. And do you notice something? You don't walk into His name. You don't dawdle. You don't hesitate. You RUN!

SAY EVERYTHING in the name of the Lord

Colossians 3:17 reminds us that we are not only to DO everything in the name of the Lord but to make sure that every word that comes out of our mouth is in the name of the Lord. This is what it says, "Whatsoever ye do in WORD or DEED, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him."

This principle is like a watchman for our lips, isn't it? If what we are going to say does not bring honor to the name of the Lord, we better not say it! This is a personal challenge, but also to the whole family. Encourage your children with this life principle: don't let anything come out of your mouth that would dishonor the name of the Lord.

SERVE in the name of the Lord

Whatever we are doing to serve the Lord, we should do it in His name. It is fruitless to do it in our own name, or anyone else's name, no matter how famous they are.

Your greatest service to the Lord in your home is as a mother, embracing the precious babies God gives to you and nurturing and training them on God's behalf. You are not doing this for yourself. You are doing this powerful service in the name of the Lord. What a privilege.

Hebrews 6:10 tells us, "God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love, which ye have showed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister" Serving God can be hard work. Serving the Lord in your divine career of motherhood is hard work. But, be encouraged dear mother. God notices. He sees your "labor of love" which you give not only to your children but as a service to Him. And He will reward you (1 Corinthians 15:58).

SING PRAISES to the name of the Lord

Do you want to do something that is good? To sing praises to the name of the Lord is a GOOD thing to do. The psalmist confesses, "It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High" (Psalm 92:1).

David was not haphazard about singing praises to the name of the Lord. Whether he was in the mood or not in the mood he said, "I WILL sing praises unto thy name" (2 Samuel 22:50). And in Psalm 61:8 the psalmist says, "I WILL sing praise unto thy name FOREVER" (Psalm 61:8). How often do you sing praises to the Lord in your home?

Read also Psalm 7:17; 9:2; 18:49; 66:2,4; 68:4; 69:30; 135:3 and 149:3.

PRAYER:

Thank you, Lord for the power of your name. It is the most excellent name in all the earth. It is my Safe Tower into which I can continually run. Thank you for the privilege of mothering my children in your name. I am not doing this for myself, but for the glory of your name. Amen."

AFFIRMATION:

I am mothering in the name of the Lord today. This makes all the difference to my day.
