Where are the folks that believe in courtship today? What is wrong with encouraging our children to stay in the family home until they wed?

What is wrong with a young man being serious enough about a young lady to come to the father for permission to get to know her?

We have been frowned upon for encouraging such things, yet I have to ask, what is right about dating, or moving out as a young/barely adult?
